§4 (1) of the general framework for PhD Degree Programs in Business, Economics and Statistics of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics standardizes the procedure for the submission of the dissertation proposal. Accordingly, each student has to submit a research proposal for his or her dissertation project within the first year of the program. Before approval, the student has to present his or her dissertation project to the faculty.
The second presentation to the faculty is given at the end of the program on the results achieved during the dissertation project.
Both presentations will be graded. The other three research seminars, which are required by the PhD curriculum, can be passed by regular attendance in other semesters. Students with a presence of at least 75% during one semester will receive a corresponding credit (+) in their transcript of records
PLEASE NOTE: Students of the new curricula have to register for the first presentation via the SSC (wiwi-service@univie.ac.at). Please send the completed form and the scanned exposé (as a PDF File named as: "firstname_surname_matric.no._expose.pdf") via email three weeks before the appointment at the latest to: wiwi-service@univie.ac.at. Please register for the second presentation at opim.bwl@univie.ac.at.
All forms are available in the download area of the WiWi-Service at: http://doktorat.univie.ac.at/formulare-und-downloads/formulare/
In particular, the following forms are required:
- SL/D11 Registration for the dissertation topic and announcement of the supervisor

According to §4 of the PhD curriculum, students are required to pass research seminars at the doctoral level in the equivalence of four contact hours. Therefore, students have to present two times in the faculty-wide research seminar. It is recommended to make the first presentation (preferably on the topic of the dissertation) within the first year of the program, and the second presentation (on the achieved results) at the end of the program.
Grading for the faculty-wide seminar is based on these two presentations.
PLEASE NOTE: Students of the old curriculum should register for the presentation at opim.bwl@univie.ac.at.
All forms are available in the download area of the WiWi-Service at: http://wiwi.univie.ac.at/service/downloadcenter/studium/phd/
Students of the new Curriculum
http://wiwi.univie.ac.at/fileadmin/user_upload/f_wiwi/Service/Downloadcenter/PhD/Curriculum/Struktur_des_PhD_2_eng.pdf
According to §3 (4) of the PhD curriculum, students are required to attend the faculty-wide research seminar five times. In one of these seminars (preferably within the first year of the program) students have to present their research topic, information about the prospective methodological approach and the tentative structure of the dissertation. In another one of these seminars (presumably at the end of the program) students have to present the achieved results of their research. Each semester, the research seminar has to be offered by all faculty members in the field of management who are entitled to supervise doctoral students. Students receive 25 ECTS-points for the successful completion of the five research seminars.
