Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In this topic course we will study recent advances in the literature on international
macroeconomics. Topics covered include international financial crises, capital controls and macro-prudential policies, exchange rate policy, secular stagnation and the international role of the dollar.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The evaluation is based on a term paper.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The term paper needs to be related to one of the topics covered in class. Ideally, you should start from one or two papers from the syllabus and extend it/them in some interesting direction. You can work on the paper on your own or in groups of two.

4. Deleveraging and liquidity traps in open economies
5. Global imbalances and secular stagnation
6. The role of the dollar in the international monetary system
