Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Students will benefit most from the workshop if they are in the process of developing the methodology for one of their papers at the time of the workshop. Successful completion of the FÖP is a prerequisite for participation in the research workshop.
During this research workshop, students will present, discuss and receive feedback on the quantitative analyses they are conducting as part of their PhD thesis. This workshop will be an opportunity to receive solution-oriented guidance from the lecturer on the implementation of methods adapted to the research questions of the Ph.D. It will also consist of collective reflection on the use and implementation of methods. Finally, students will work in groups and give each other feedback.
The workshop will use a variety of approaches to discuss the papers and scientific methods:
Presentations each student will present an ongoing research paper from their PhD thesis, focusing on methods and issues related to their implementation.
Refining the implementation students will explore the scientific literature to find research articles describing the methodology and other work using it, to better understand how the method is being used and what the important steps are in implementing it. They will read and summarise the text in the light of their specific research question, and possibly present the take-home messages from their reading to their peers.
Problem-based approach the group will work through ongoing research presented by students to help them improve the implementation of the method. After defining the problem as a group, students will prepare questions and ideas which will then feed into discussions aimed at improving the approach in small and larger groups.
Language: English

Please note: The prerequisite for participation in research workshop is the conclusion of the doctoral thesis agreement.

Bitte beachten Sie: Voraussetzung für den Besuch von einer Forschungswerkstatt ist der Abschluss der Dissertationsvereinbarung.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Students should attend at least 80% of the sessions.
Reading texts between the sessions (when required) and providing feedback is compulsory.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Active participation: 20%
Work on peer-feedback, oral and written: 30%
Presentation of own method and results, oral and written: 50%
Grading scale is 1-5: excellent (1), good (2), satisfactory (3), sufficient (4), failed (5).

Prüfungsstoff

Active participation covers the general involvement of the student in the workshop.
Students will present their work at least once, focusing on the method and the problems they encounter in its implementation. Critical evaluation of the method implementation in the literature will also be important.
Students will give oral and written feedback to their peers, with the aim of improving their own critical thinking about methods and their implementation, and of helping the presenting student to improve their approach and deal with the problems they encounter.

Literatur

Readings that best support the implementation of the method will be selected by the lecturer and the students.
