Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
One of the key elements of the research process after finding the right research question is considering which method to use for answering the research question and what data to use. All too often this part of the research process is not treated with the dedication it deserves. This may be due to the lack of overview of which methods are available, which data is out there or how to gather new and interesting data.In this seminar we will deal with the question of which method best captures the intentions of the research question and what quantitative data sources are available for the particular project, or if needed, how data can be collected and coded. The seminar is open for all PhD students at the Faculty of Social Sciences working on a dissertation with quantitative elements.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
In order to receive a grade for the course each participant must hand in a paper (15-20 pages) on 15.07.2012 at the latest, where either the choice of method and data is explained and critically discussed or the data collection process is documented, in the case of the participant collecting quantitative data on their own.
