Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Active participation will cover the general involvement of the student in the workshop.
Students will present their work at least once, with an emphasis on the method and issues they are meeting implementing it. They will make available to everybody one of their papers in progress for feedback on the method implementation. The critical assessment of method implementation in the literature will also be important.
Students will give oral and written feedback to their peers, with the aim to improve their own critical thinking about methods and their implementation and to help the presenting student improving their approach and dealing with the issues they are meeting.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The students should attend at least 80% of the sessions.
Reading the texts of other students between the sessions and providing feedback is compulsory.Final grading is distributed the following way:
Active participation: 20%
Work on peer-feedback, oral and written: 30%
Presentation of own method and results, oral and written: 50%
Grading scale is 1-5: “excellent” (1), “good” (2), “satisfactory” (3), “sufficient” (4), “failed” (5).

Readings that best support method implementation will be selected by the lecturer and by the students.

Presentations – each student will present an on-going research paper of their Ph.D. thesis with an accent put on methods and issues linked to their implementation.
Refining the implementation – the students will explore the scientific literature to find research articles describing the methodology and other papers using it, to better understand the usage that is done of this method, and which are the important steps in implementing it. They will read and summarise the text in light of their specific research question, and possibly introduce the take-home messages they have taken from their reading to their peers.
Problem-based approach – the group will work through on-going research papers of students to help improving the implementation of the method. After defining the problem as a group, each student will prepare questions and collect ideas that will feed discussions geared towards improvement of the approach in small and wider groups.
There will be the possibility to continue this workshop during Summer Semester 2023.
