Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In sociology the terms 'global' and 'globalization are employed in different ways: e.g. simply as a way to speak about societal change; as a concept for analyzing process of de-nationalization and emerging new economic and political actors; or for deciphering the processes of cultural hybridization, uprising social movements, and local resistances.
The seminar invites to work on the theoretical and methodological requirements and problems of what could be called a 'global sociology-approach'. Based on readings referring to methodological nationalism, methodological cosmopolitanism, de-colonized approaches, etc., by including contributions also from non-European research contexts, the seminar is defined as an open space both for critical thinking and debate - in particular with regard to the dissertation projects of the seminar participants - and for collective writing.
