Aside from the introduction into historical theory and methodology the
seminar prepares successful applicants for the 6th Graduate Conference
in European History (a CfP has been published at
http://www.univie.ac.at/graceh2012/ - if you are interested in Graceh
you need to apply) that is carried out in cooperation with the history
departments at Central European University (Budapest) and the European
University Institute (Florence). In 2012, Graceh will be hosted by
University of Vienna and bear the title 'Transformation in European History: Preconditions - Processes - Perceptions'. Successful applicants
from all three partner universities will be asked to present parts of
their doctoral research in connection with the general topic of the
conference.

the boundaries of national history. The readings will be based upon
methodological discussions in the past decade that involved particularly
specialists on European history, East European history and postcolonial
history.
