Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This class is devoted to Cultural Studies and its discontents and is based on Graeme Turner’s recent polemic publication What’s Become of Cultural Studies? (2012). The class is of interest for PhD students who are interested in recent trends and discussions within the tradition of British Cultural Studies in particular and Cultural Studies in general. The class is of interest for students embarking on, or already working on their 'Dissertation' (PhD thesis) in the area of Cultural Studies, broadly conceived.

regular attendance, active in-class participation, reading assignments, minutes or presentations, final oral exam (in the form of a conversation)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The aim of the course is twofold: first, to have the opportunity to discuss controversies in Cultural Studies and second, to get to know the projects of fellow students.

Prüfungsstoff

Participants will collaborate in the critical consideration of the issues arising from Turner’s book. Giving and receiving feedback and support for thesis work is another important aspect of this course.
