The goal of the course is to tackle one of the most fundamental (and challenging) aspects of scientific work: publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Specifically, the course aims to help doctoral-level students become more proficient in the conventions of, and techniques for, scientific writing in English, with emphasis on developing advanced skills for composing clear and concise texts. The course will also provide guidelines for using argumentation strategies in writing. Other topics include precise word choice and usage, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structures, manuscript organization, and citation techniques. Finally, the course will provide cognitive-behavioral strategies for becoming a more productive writer.

“The Moves that Matter: Scientific Writing and Argumentation” will be taught by Dr. Pablo P.L. Tinio, Professor at the City University of New York – Queens College. Dr. Tinio is the co-editor of the APA journal, “Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts.”
