Each student is expected to contribute to classroom discussions and activities, to give a group presentation about a lesson plan and to write a paper as part of the final grade. The topic will be elective amongst a suggested list.
Active participation and presence (2 absences allowed). This means that:
- Students can be absent for one lesson (3hrs)
- Students can be absent twice for 1hr30min (which will equal to 3hrs)The final grade is based on three components: active participation (30%), a presentation about a lesson plan (30%) and a paper (40%).
To pass the course, a positive grade in each component is required.
A tool for plagiarism check might be used to assess the paper.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
The seminar will be taught in English, therefore a minimum level of B2 is required. If you are unsure about the language requirements, feel free to write an e-mail.

The topic of the presentation and the paper will be elective from those studied during the course.

Citizenship Education is a cross-curricular subject that is concerned with topics and didactical principles that are relevant to all disciplines. These include diversity, heterogeneity, inclusion and exclusion dynamics.
The course will focus on how to address controversial topics and citizenship-related issues that concern students and society more broadly.
Besides the theoretical input given in the first lessons, the seminar will reflect on teachers’ roles, methods, and teaching approaches. It will present project-based learning, the use of short films and focusing on real-life issues when teaching.
Students are expected to become familiar with the principles and core ideas of Citizenship Education and its didactics.
They are furthermore expected to develop/strengthen teaching abilities, including:
• Communication skills: ability to convey evidence-based ideas in discussions, capacity to convey one’s point of view in a discussion, adapt the most appropriate communication means for a given context.
• Methodological skills: providing multiple perspectives and reflecting a plurality of interests in teaching; how to use (short) films as pedagogical tools.
Methodology
This course is designed on active education and student-centred methodologies. Therefore, students’ active participation is required.
The course will involve activities around (short) films, communication exercises, presentations, group discussions and work.N.B. More information about the online/face-to-face format will be announced at the beginning of the course.
