Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course aims at giving an overview of research undertaken by graduate students at the Faculty of Physics, offering a place to connect with students from other groups as well as refining presentation skills in the academic context. Given that many conferences and meetings have moved online due to current travel restrictions particular emphasis will be given to virtual presentations.
Participants of the seminar give online talks on research challenges they confront and discuss with their peers strategies to overcome them. Individual feedback will be given for each presentation. Further sessions are dedicated to poster design, poster presentation and flash talks, presentation of a research programme and demonstrations.

This course is open to students from all areas of physics (theoretical, computational or experimental) and to both PhD and MSc students. Where possible students are encouraged to present their own research projects. The language of communication is English.

Please note that the seminar will be taught online.

Format & content of the scientific talks and weekly assignments, accessibility for students from different fields, feedback on presentations of other attendants.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Requirement for a positive grade: active participation (mandatory; at most three sessions can be missed with prior explanatory statement), giving a scientific talk and a flash talk, designing a poster and handing in weekly assignments.

Literature will be announced throughout the course and will be made available on Moodle.
