Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Contents:
The seminar explores current substantive debates in the field of digital education and learning. Topics include the role of emerging technologies in education, challenges related to digital equity and equal access, and participation in ethical and societal discourse. Participants will engage in critical discussions, analyze key research findings, and identify avenues for future inquiry to advance the field of digital education and learning.
Aims:
The seminar aims to convey an overview and critical understanding of the current state of the art in research topics from digital education and learning relevant to the participants. They should be able to critically examine key research findings, identify and assess opportunities and challenges, engage in ethical and societal discourse and identify gaps in current research to sketch future directions for the field.
Methods:
The seminar will comprise some of the following methods:
- Lectures, for foundational knowledge and theoretical frameworks
- Discussion sessions, to encourage critical reflection and to share perspectives
- Analysis of research findings, to identify key topics / findings and to understand the current state of knowledge in the field
- Case studies and group activities, to facilitate practical application of theoretical concepts, encourage collaborative problem-solving, and promote deeper insights into real-world challenges and opportunities
Project work, undertaking individual or group projects to explore specific research questions

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

- Active participation during the seminar
- Participation in group/project work and presentation of results
- Seminar papers

Students’ use of AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) to support the production of texts and media is permitted while ensuring their written works remain authentically their own. Usage of AI tools must be documented and cited appropriately to maintain academic integrity and acknowledge the contribution of these tools to the students' work.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

No prior technical knowledge required. Seminar and texts mostly in English language. Attendance with active participation, timely submission of seminar paper(s).

Attendance is compulsory for 'pi' courses. Absences will only be excused in justified cases, e.g. illness (only with a doctor's certificate), conflicting examination dates, compulsory participation in an excursion, care obligations, etc. (only with confirmation).

Minimum requirement:
- Compulsory attendance (see above).
- Compulsory presentations.
- Seminar papers: In order to ensure good scientific practice, the
course instructor may invite students to a grade-relevant discussion after submission of the seminar paper, which must be completed with a positive grade.

Assessment criteria:
The grade is awarded subject to attendance and holding the presentations on the basis of the quality of the seminar paper(s) (specified/agreed submission deadline must be met). Active participation and the quality of the presentations can improve or worsen the grade by one grade.
