Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understand the actors –institutions and others, non-formal ones, eg lobby groups, NGOs, individuals, companies – and procedures of EU lawmaking. The course is divided into two parts, namely theory and practice: The former outlines the relevant EU constitutional law aspects, the latter several examples of EU lawmaking. In the latter, then, is a simulation of negotiations and votes at the EU level. Here, students will themselves assume the role of actors in the legislation process (either in teams or individually). Possible topics include EU Asylum Law, the MERCOSUR agreement, the (failed) TTIP Negotiations, BREXIT, Corporate sustainability due diligence, Deforestation, Environmental Crime, Intellectual Property, Social Media, Data Protection, and Artificial Intelligence. Further suggestions are welcome.
