Prüfungsstoff
There will be mandatory textbooks for the preparation of each unit, chapters will be assigned to be read before class: students will be able to chose between a book in German (Komlosy, Globalgeschichte) and a book in English language (Vanhaute, World History). Required reading chapters will be presented by a student at the beginning of each class (which will count for grading). Optional further readings will be made available.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
There will be a written exam about the content of the lectures and the mandatory literature. Students' presentations in class will be acknowledged for grading.
Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab
This lecture course offers an introduction into theories and methods of global history: how to deal with space and time, the role of personalities, single events and structures, micro and macro perspectives, short-term and long-term developments, social stratification and regional imbalances, just to name a few. We will approach these questions by accepting the claim of a new global history to take account of developments, and their entanglement, in various world regions without Eurocentric bias.
