Aims, contents and method of the course
Registration via u: space is possible from 01/09/2018 to 30/06/2019.No knowledge of Biblical Hebrew is required. The course will gradually familiarise students with the Hebrew alphabet, Masoretic vowel theory and basics of nominal and verbal grammar and syntax. Participants will be guided to analyse and translate easy narrative texts of the Old Testament by themselves.
Assessment and permitted materials
Curriculum 2015: Written exam of 45 minutes; two verses of a simple narrative text, introduction to grammar at the end of winter term.
Curricula prior to 2015: Written exam about the topics of the two lectures of the academic year at the end of summer term. Five to six verses of a simple narrative text have to be translated.
Permitted materials: Dictionary and grammar charts.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Analysis and translation of easy Biblical Hebrew texts; command of the basic rules of Hebrew grammar; competence to judge foreign language translations regarding their rendition of the original text.
Examination topics
The course is taught as a combination of the lecture and active participation of the students in class. Additionally, exercises on „moodle“ are offered. There is also a tutorial supporting the course ("Biblisches Hebräisch 1 - Vertiefung"). The attendance is strongly recommended.
