Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

COURSE REQUIREMENT: Students who want to attend this course must know the contents of the VO Biblical Hebrew I.
Building on the basic knowledge already acquired, this course introduces students to the more advanced ancient Hebrew grammar and the basic rules of Hebrew syntax. This is done by a combination of methods, i. e. lecture, group work, individual exercises and homework.
At the end of the course, participants will be able to independently analyze and translate texts from the Hebrew Bible with the help of appropriate tools.

Assessment and permitted materials

!!! ATTENDANCE IS ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY !!!
NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.
A maximum absence time of 3 units (à 90 minutes) can be excused for medical, professional or family reasons. If students are repeatedly late for class, the time missed will be counted as absence time.

In addition to the course, a tutorial will be offered in order to enable students to practice and enhance their knowledge with the help of a tutor. Attendance at the tutorial is not mandatory but strongly recommended.

The grade consists of:
- 30 % exercises in the course units
- 30 % homework
- 40 % written exam at the end of term

In order to achieve a positive overall grade, each of these three parts must be positive.

The exam takes 90 minutes. The length of the exam text is 3-4 verses. A dictionary and the course script (parts I + II) may be used. The Bible may NOT be used.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The following grading scale will be used:

100-87 % = Very good
86-75 % = Good
74-63 % = Satisfactory
62-51 % = Sufficient
50-0 % = Not sufficient

Examination topics

All materials needed will be made available via Moodle. More detailed information will be given in the course.
