Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives:: The lecture introduces into the philosophy of the Western Middle Ages.

Content: The lecture offers an intruduction into the philosophy of the Western Middle Ages, from its late antique foundations (Augustine, Boethius, Pseudo-Dionysius), via Anselm of Canterbury, Arabian Aristotelianism, Aristotelianism in Albertus Magnus and Thomas Aquinas, Scotism and Ockhamism, mysticism in Meister Eckhart and in women's mysticism up until the Renaissance (Petrarca). Social-historical aspects complete the picture.

Method: The lecture is divided into 70 minutes of presentation and 20 minutes for questions and discussion.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written Exam of 90 minutes without aids.
Four exams between 2022W and 2023S.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement: A score of at least 50% of the achievable 25 points in the written exam.
