Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Basic course in life ethics including the following topics:
1. How do we understand life? What do we mean by that term?
2. What is meant by the command "Thou shalt not kill"?
3. Human dignity, esp. at the beginning and the end of life;
4. Human responsibility for non-human creation.
We deal with these topics by analyzing the classical problems of abortion, reproductive medicine, suicide, death penalty, euthanasia and ecological ethics.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Participants shall know the basic notions of Bioethics and know how to use the ethical method to deal with day-to-day problems in that field.

Examination topics

Lecture with discussion.
