Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Theological Ethics are set in a world where a variety of gender relations exists. As a theological discipline, theological ethics want to reflect these relations in the light of Christian belief today. Therefore, we first have to take a close look at the plural reality of lifestyles today. Secondly, we will examine central positions of the ecclesial tradition concerning marriage and sexuality. This forms the background for understanding the present-day teaching of the Catholic Church. In a third step, we will turn to different ethical conceptions including their anthropological backgrounds and implications. In the final part of this lecture, specific norms concerning different areas of gender relations (marriage as place of dignity, divorce and remarriage, domestic partnerships, same-sex relationships ...) will be discussed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Understanding social changes taking place, including various lifestyles, and enabling a reflection on different ethical conceptions leading to different ethical judgement, especially among theological ethics and magisterium.(1) "Very good" is awarded for performance in which the candidate fulfils the requirements set in accordance with the curriculum and the specific course in the comprehension and application of the subject matter as well as in the execution of the tasks to an extent that goes far beyond the essentials and, where possible, demonstrates clear independence or the ability to independently apply his/her knowledge and skills to tasks that are new to him/her.
(2) "Good" is awarded for performance in which the candidate fulfils the requirements set in accordance with the curriculum and the specific course to an extent that goes beyond the essentials in the comprehension and application of the subject matter and in the execution of the tasks and, where possible, demonstrates noticeable approaches to independence or, with appropriate guidance, the ability to apply his/her knowledge and skills to tasks that are new to him/her.
(3) "Satisfactory" is awarded for performance in which the candidate fully meets the requirements of the curriculum and the specific course in terms of the comprehension and application of the subject matter and the performance of the tasks in the essential areas; deficiencies in performance are compensated for by noticeable approaches to independence.
(4) "Sufficient" is awarded for performance with which the candidate predominantly fulfils the requirements set in accordance with the curriculum and the specific course in the comprehension and application of the subject matter as well as in the performance of the tasks in the essential areas.
(5) Candidates who do not even fulfil all the requirements for an assessment with "'Sufficient" shall be assessed as "Not Sufficient".
