Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar is dedicated to the current ethical controversies in animal ethics (animal husbandry, animal experiments, reasons for not eating meat, etc.) as well as to the question of the relationship between animals and humans in religions. In the background is the question whether Christians can learn something from other cultures and religions or what own resources Christianity offers to promote a good treatment of animals.
In addition to lectures, excursions, guest lectures and interactive methods will be used.

Assessment and permitted materials

discussion, written paper of 10-15 pages. If a group writes a joint paper, a longer paper is required (9 pages / person excluding front page, table of content and bibliography).
It is planned that students give papers in addition to experts' presentations and excursions to institutions working in the field. In case the University is closed due to the Corona pandemic or if safety measures in institutions do not allow visits, the program needs to be adapted. For texts and tasks, please consult the Moodle platform.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Active participation (reading, participation in discussions - in case of online teaching participation using chat or audio), oral paper or tasks on moodle (40%) and essay on one of the the topics of the seminar (60%)
