Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lectures have four main topics:
- Jesus, early Christianity, and its relation to Judaism of the first century;
- political and theological presuppositions and consequences concerning the way of Christianity beyond, without, and against Judaism;
- development of the Medieval Latin Church forming the structures as they still are today;
- (European) Christianity today, its chances, and its losses.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam at the end of the semester or afterwards oral exam at exam dates published by the SSC.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The result of these lectures should be to realize the big change Christianity underwent by the ending of Judaic communities within it, by the development of new groups stemming from pagan traditions, and by the consequences of this change for Christian institutions and Christian teaching. And then they should come to know about some of the most important challenges Christianity faces today.
