Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Scientific discussion of sucide as psychological, sociological and philosophical phenomenon from a theological point of view. We will also learn about the basic priniciples and methods of recognizing a pre-suicidal dynamic and the prevention of actual suicides.

Assessment and permitted materials

active participation in the discussion and preparation of one unit
written paper of ca. 25.000 characters

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- theological and canonical aspects of sucide through history
- scientific knowledge about suicide (psychology, sociology, psychiatry)
- philosophical perspective on suicide (from stoic philosophers to Camus and Amery)
- the concept of crisis intervention
- pracitcal exercises

Examination topics

Students will form subgroups and prepare different topics for discussion. We encourage all to use activating methods instead of just giving talks.
