Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Anyone who deals with religion inevitably compares concepts, practices, etc. (whether intentionally or not). It is therefore all the more important to deal intensively with systematic comparison as one of the foundations of religious studies. Comparison does not only mean contrasting, but also establishing categories of comparison by means of which religious phenomena (or individual aspects of them) are examined.
The lecture offers an introduction to systematic comparison as a method of religious studies. Concepts such as religion and theories of religion are discussed. Specific examples will be used to show what knowledge can be gained from systematic comparisons.
