Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Many Old Testament narratives as well as certain central topics have inspired cinematography since its rapid rise at the beginning of the 20th century. While literature and classical music prevailed as a means of reception of these topics, modern movies are now the primary forum to discuss biblical issues in a secular society. This seminar will select some of the most important movies inspired by biblical topics and analyze them in various respects and perspectives.
Assessment and permitted materials
The overall grade will be determined by several components: attendance (2 missed classes during the semester maximum), active participation during seminar meetings (discussions on selected movies and criteria of their analysis; candid observation) and a final research paper of 15-20 pages on a topic to be chosen in cooperation with the instructor.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Fulfillment of the abovementioned requirements with about 50% of the grade deriving from the research paper.
Examination topics
There will not be any exam. This seminar has inherent examination character. Positive fulfillment of the abovementioned three elements (presence, active participation, research paper).
