Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Theology in the 20th century was marked by an ecclesiological turn as changes in church-state relations, reform movements, and the ecumenical movement required a new theological focus on the doctrine of church and ministry. In the Orthodox tradition, Eucharistic ecclesiology became a dominant trend that tried to derive the concept and structure of the church and its ministry from the celebration of the Eucharist. In the present seminar we will study the classic and foundational works of eucharistic ecclesiology with a special focus on the theologies of Nicholas Afanasiev and John Zizioulas.

Assessment and permitted materials

The students will be graded on their active participation in the seminar and on a seminar paper at the end of the course.
