Theology of bodiliness with special respect to Maurice Merleau-Ponty

In August, 2011, the next congress of the European Society for Catholic Theology will take place at Vienna, in which theologians from all over Europe will participate. Theme of the conference is "On the borders of bodiliness", which covers interdisciplinary and theological aspects of bodiliness. In preperation for this event, we will study the phenomenology of Merlau Ponty (1908-1961) which can be regarded as a first and very important theory of bodiliness having influenced philosophers and theologians (e.g. Nancy, Sequeri, et al.).
The seminar is part of the curriculum for doctoral students, but all other students who are willing to study texts which are difficult to understand are welcome to participate.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular participation and paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge of characteristic features of Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology.

Examination topics

We will read and interpret selected passages from Merleau-Ponty's main work "phenomenology of perception".
