Aims, contents and method of the course

What connects religion and video games? Which apps do believers use in their everyday religious life? How is religion depicted in film and television? How is religious content communicated on TikTok?

The aim of this lecture is to provide an overview of the broad thematic spectrum of the connections between religion and media. Different theoretical and methodological approaches will be discussed. The focus is on dealing with current questions about the relationship between religion and media in various media formats (e.g. digital games, social media, film/television, apps, etc.) as well as in relation with other societal areas (e.g. family, gender, church, etc.).

Assessment and permitted materials

Written examination on four announced dates. The exam will be held in German. If necessary, it can also be taken in English.

Permitted aids: None.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The answers in the written exam must present the content of the lecture correctly.
For the exam to be assessed positive, at least 50% of the questions must be answered correctly.

Minimum requirement: 50% of the achievable number of points.
50-60%: enough
60-75%: satisfactory
75-90%: good
90-100%: very good
