010110 VO Introduction in Theology I (2015S)

The lecture will deal with concepts and methods of systematic theology and its history. Considering this there is one main issue for contemporary theology. It has to avoid each and every anti-Judaic implications; Christianity has no basis without its deep connection to Judaism in past and present days. Anti-Judaic attitudes are a Cristian self-contradiction.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Main concepts and issues of systematic theology
Relation between Christianity and Judaism as a decisive fact for Christian self-evidence
Main stages of ecclesiastical teaching as guidelines of theology in general
Important thinkers of Christian history, their topics, coincidences, and arguments
God's revelation through Israel and Jesus; the eternal covenant
Theology in contemporary European society and its resistance to modern idols

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The students should be able to
- know a concept of systematic theology relevant within theology as well as beyond
- realize on the basis of Christian-Jewish connections theological concepts which imply anti-Judaic concepts and to resist to them
- understand that Christian thinking as well as Christian teaching is part of time and history and its struggles, chances, and hopes, and that it always has to face what biblical faith calls conversion
- see that God's revelation was and is part of men's history and its witnesses and nothing apart from it
- get along with the fact theological that God's covenant with Israel has never ever been abandoned
