" Brief history of acculturation as a basic experience of migrant
" Acculturation strategies
" Models of culture (Hofstede, GLOBE)
" How far are culture dimensions universal or culture specific - emic vs. etic approach
" Cross-cultural communication process: hosts and guests
" Role of religion in cultural transition of different kinds of migrants
" Migration as a trauma and as an opportunity
" Religion as coping mechanism
" Religion as a cage
" Religion as a bridge
" Analytical instruments for evaluation of potential success or failure in migration processes

Assessment and permitted materials

" Active participation in seminars 20%
" Submission of requested group work 30%
" Short presentation of selected topics 40%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course focuses on how cultural differences can be used to find better solutions for dilemmas inherent in migration processes and will contribute towards building awareness about your own culture (and those of your classmates).

Examination topics

Presentation by teacher, reading of texts, discussion, presentations by students.
