Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture presents some main drifts and ideas of modern european philosophy since Renaissance. The presentation of central basic questions and traditional lines of modern thinking comes to the fore. Modern thinking can be seen as a creative reflexion on sociocultural changes, which have taken place in european societies since the late Middle Ages; since the 18th century, modern philosophy also takes place emphatically as historical self-assurance of "modern times". Two paradigms can be differentiated: Modern times either way as a process of Enlightenment ("Aufklärung"), or as "dialectic of Enlightenment", in the context of critique of progress. Emanating from the ideas of selfcreation and the plurality of worlds, which opened up in Renaissance thinking, a third line can be exposed, which can be described as "dialectic of delimitation".
