Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives: Introduction to Heidegger's Seinsdenken, its genesis, and one of its central points of reference, which is early Greek philosophy.

Content: In the course of the so-called Kehre ins Seinsdenken, the pre-Socratics Anaximander, Heraclitus and Parmenides become of decisive importance for Heidegger. He deals with them in order to elaborate on another beginning of thinking after the completion of Western metaphysics in Nietzsche's nihilism. The lecture discusses Heidegger's engagement with the Presocratics in the context of his entire oeuvre. For a better understanding, the first sessions will discuss early Greek thought apart from Heidegger's interpretation.

Method: 70-minute lecture, 20-minute discussion.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam of 90 minutes without any aids.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement: A score of 50% of the achievable 25 points in the written exam.
