Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Course will focus on how culture influences communication process. Cultural variability will be operationalized along the following dimensions: individualism-collectivism, high-and low- context, uncertainty avoidance, power distance, masculinity-femininity. Acculturation strategies and culture shock as an output of cultural encounters will be discussed. Role of religion in acculturation process will be analyzed. Specific cultural profiles of Europeans, Asians and Americans will be presented and the role of these profiles in successful vs. failed communication process.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The goal of the course is to bring towards creating ethnorelativistic attitudes towards cultural differences. In order to achieve such a goal students will learn about cultural conditioning of their perception of others, and characteristics of other cultures which could contribute to possible conflicts and misunderstanding during cultural encounters.
