Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims to enable students to critically apply contemporary models and theories to current social discourses. The aim is to analyse the emergence and development processes of relevant debates and to reflect on their significance for areas of conflict in European societies. In particular, the role of theologians, religious teachers and pastors as actors in the field of tension between religious convictions and social challenges will be analysed.

The following topics are planned:
- Migration and Islam
- The headscarf debate
- Sunni-Shia discourses and lived religiosity
- Materiality of religion
- Truth discourses in religious studies and theology
- Islamist fundamentalist currents

All individual debates are dealt with in their origins and development. Participants develop their own solution strategies and learn to take a position on these debates.
