Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture offers exemplary introductions to the formation of the canon, to individual New Testament texts as well as to other early Christian writings. In addition, the reading of an introductory work (see below) and articles on apocryphal texts is obligatory.

Topics include the origins of the New Testament texts as well as their major theological themes, the history of the New Testament canon, and the origins and content of the writings of the apostolic fathers and the major apocrypha to the New Testament. The lecture will be supported with slides that will be available on the platform.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination on the material of the lecture (lecture and reading assignments), the dates can be found on the homepage of the institute. Aids are not allowed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Of three questions on the examination material, two must be answered positively. Knowledge of the contents of the lecture or reading assignments (50%) and the ability to give reasons for the historical reconstructions (50%) are equally decisive for the assessment.
