Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

At the end of the proseminar you will be familiar with the basic methods of classical as well as newer exegesis of the Old Testament. You will be able to apply the methods to a text independently.
Each class is structured by impulses and discussions and occasional group work. In addition to the homework exercises, the methodological steps are also to be applied to the text of the Proseminar -essay. The biblical text will be chosen at the beginning of the semester. This work on one's own text is also to be submitted each time. It serves the purpose of developing your own basics for the Proseminar essay.

Assessment and permitted materials

The basis for the assessment is, in addition to presence, regular homework, oral participation and a presentation.
The Proseminar essay is a approx. 20-page work on the biblical text which is based on the small assignments during the semester.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The completed Hebrew courses (Hebrew 1 and II) is a prerequisite for this course.
The marking is based on the regularly performed homework, a presentation (short introduction to a teaching unit with given literature) and the oral participation: 50%.
Proseminar essay: 50%
All sub-areas must be positive in order to be able to complete the course positively.

There is the possibility to declare the Proseminar essay as a Bachelor thesis and with this the BPS I is evaluated as a Bachelor seminar with one additional ECTS point. Alternatively, you can also declare the work in BPS II as a Bachelor thesis. In this case the thesis is 25-30 pages long and sets an additional focus.

Examination topics

1.Oral participation, presentation and regular homework.
2. The Pro-seminar essay is an independent work, based on the application of the methodological steps and individual further reading.
