    Aims, contents and method of the course

    Objective:
    Students will be familiar with the classical canon of historical-critical methods and will be able to explain individual methodological steps. They will be able to apply the historical-critical method to New Testament texts, to analyse them independently with the help of primary and secondary literature, and to interpret them using newer exegetical approaches to textual interpretation. On successful completion of the course they will be able to write a paper on the subject matter of the course, justifying their own exegetical decisions and examining the research opinions of others.

    Classical canon of historical-critical methods and newer approaches to biblical interpretation

    Methods:
    Lecture by the teachers
    Independent reading of selected literature before and after class
    Regular preparation of homework
    Joint discussion of homework
    Group work
    E-learning

    Assessment and permitted materials

    Completion of a written bachelor or proseminar thesis according to the specifications and formal guidelines announced in class and on Moodle

    Participation in class, presentation of interim results of the thesis or individual methodical steps in class and on Moodle

    Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

    Bachelor or Proseminar thesis: 70%
    To be submitted by 31/08/2025 at the latest!

    Participation: 30%
    Active participation in class, presentation of interim results of the thesis or individual methodical steps in class and on Moodle

    Compulsory attendance (continuous assessment course)
    Two excused absences possible
