Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Athanasius of Alexandria, 328-373 bishop of the Egyptian metropolis, is considered the father of Nicene Orthodoxy. Despite, or perhaps because of, his five times of exile, he had a large sphere of influence. Through his life and the reading of his writings, the debates and developments of his time, such as the Arian or Trinitarian controversy, the conflicts with pagans and developments in monasticism, are accessible.
The seminar explores the life and works of this important church father on the basis of selected works of his oeuvre.

Assessment and permitted materials

Of relevance are:
Preparation of texts
