Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, we will choose specific topics of the psychology of religion (based on the "introduction to the psychology of religion" course in the winter term). There will be oral presentations and group discussions. In order to deepen our debate, we will read some essential texts of the psychology of religion authored for instance by Sigmund Freud, William James or Carl Gustav Jung as well as we will discuss different approaches in psychology and psychotherapy such as learning theories or the humanistic perspective. Furthermore, we will focus on evolutionary-biological and attachment-related concepts as well as on neuroscientific findings concerning the religious/spiritual dimension in the human perception. Aim: Profound knowledge of the most relevant concepts and research questions in the psychology of religion.
