Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The early Christian Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed are still the most important documents of Christianity, which unite all Christians of all confessions. While the origins of the Nicene Creed can be reconstructed in most aspects, the emergence of the Apostolicum is mostly unknown and forced up to now many controversies ("Apostolikumsstreit").
The lecture deals with the genesis and history of both texts and its modern research history.
The aim of the exercise course is, that students may understand the historical emergence of both creeds and develop a new interpretation of those old texts for modern times.
The course centers main source texts which are presented already in the lecture (020040: Tue, 16-18).
