Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The excursion offers insights into the development of Christianity in Late Antiquity and Early Middlge Ages in a special region, where until nowadays extraordinary Christian archaeological remains can be admired.
Aquileia was one of the most important cities during the Roman Empire and became episcopal see in the fourth century. The Lombards (6.-8. century) transferred their capital to Cividale, where the important "Temple of the Lombards" show an interesting Christian-Lombard cultural synthesis. In Ravenna, the focus is on the ostrogothic buildings during the time of king Theoderic.
The students get the opportunity to improve their knowledge of Christianity in Late Antiquity and Early Middel Ages. They have to deal with important places of memory and can learn to understand and present important historical and archaeological sites. They can learn presenting and demonstration their results on-site.
