    Aims, contents and method of the course

    Format:
    The course is designed like a “lecture series” (“Ringvorlesung”). Lecturers from various theological disciplines and selected neighboring subjects provide insights into concepts of corporeality in theological studies, their historical socio-cultural contexts, and contemporary research discourses.
    The course takes place in person. Digital participation is only possible in exceptional cases, following consultation with the course instructors.
    The course is also open to students from outside theological studies.

    Content:
    The seminar offers diverse insights into the various facets and theories of corporeality from intra- and interdisciplinary perspectives. Various theological subjects will be discussed alongside selected neighboring disciplines, such as Classical archaeology, German philology, Near Eastern studies, and Jewish studies.

    Objectives:
    - Students know and understand central theories and theologies on corporeality.
    - Students are able to establish inter- and intradisciplinary connections.
    - Students have an increased awareness of the interdependence of the theological disciplines.

    Methods:
    Combination of lecture and workshop.

    Assessment and permitted materials

    - Active participation.
    - Preparation of a collection of questions and theses for the final session (panel discussion) to be submitted by 26.01.2026.
    - Composition of a reflective essay focusing on one theological subject (and, if applicable, a specific course unit), taking into account at least two other disciplines. The essay should be approximately 10 pages long and should be submitted between 01.02.2026 and 30.04.2026.

    Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

    Minimum requirements:
    - Regular attendance (two excused absences permitted).
    - In order to pass the course with a passing grade, both written partical assessments (collection of questions and theses as well as the reflective essay) must be marked with a passing grade.

    Assessment criteria:
    - Active participation: 25%.
    - Collection of questions and theses: 25%.
    - Reflective essay: 50%.

    - The contents of the course, as well as the materials and literature provided by the lecturers on Moodle.
    - Collection of questions and theses.
    - Reflective essay.
