020051 SE Selected chapters of psychology of religion (2016S)

In this course we will choose specific topics of psychology of religion (based on the “introduction into psychology of religion” course in the winter term). There will be oral presentations and group discussions. In order to deepen our debate, we will read some essential texts of psychology of religion authored for instance by Sigmund Freud, William James or Carl Gustav Jung as well as we will discuss different approaches in psychology and psychotherapy such as learning theories or the humanistic perspective. Furthermore we will focus on evolutionary-biological and attachment related concepts as well as on neuroscientific findings concerning the religious/spiritual dimension in the human perception. Aim: Profound knowledge of the most relevant concepts and research questions in psychology of religion.
