Continuous assessment of course work

Während des Seminars müssen vorwiegend englische Texte gelesen werden. Das SE wird an verschiedenen Orten gehalten, 2x in der Schenkenstr. 8-10, 1x auf dem Campus (Altes AKH).

Das Seminar besteht aus drei Blöcken:
a) Im ersten Block werden elementare Texte zum religiösen Zionismus gelesen und analysiert als Grundlage für die Siedlerbewegung(Fr 20.05.2011, 09:00-16:30h, HS 3, Schenkenstr. 8-10, 6.OG)
b) Im zweiten Block werden in Kooperation mit der Evangelischen Akademie Wien öffentliche Vorträge zur Geschcihte, zum religiösen ethnischen und sozialen Hintergrund der Siedler gehalten. Diese sind jedoch obligatorischer Bestandteil des Seminars (So 22.05.2011, 09:00-18:00, Institut für Ethik und Recht in der Medizin, Spitalgasse 1-4 (Altes AKH), Hof 2.8)
c) Im dritten Block wird das Thema Archeologie und Zionismus, Archäologie und die Jüdischen Siedlungen in Silwan bzw. der "Davidstadt" in Kooperation mit Dr. Friedrich Schipper behandelt. (Mo 30.05.2011, 16:00-20:00 h, HS 1, Schenkenstr. 8-10, 5.OG)

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Since many years the debate on Jewish settlements in the territories which were occupied in the Six Day War of 1967 by the State of Israel play an important role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The seminar gives an overview on the religious, social and ethnic background of the settlers, religious Zionism, the historical develompents in the settler movement and their relation to the different Israeli goverments. On Sunday 25 May Dr. Steffen Hagemann, who wrote a Ph.D. on the topic, present his thesis in several sessions.

Basic knowledge on religious Zionism and the history of Jewish settler movement.

Examination topics

Analysis and discussion of basic texts of founders of religious Zionism in the first bloc (R. Abraham Issac Kook, R. Zvi Yehuda Kook); guest lectures of the Israeli historian Prof. Dr. Idith Zertal on the histroy, religious, ethnic and social background c) Co-lectures on Archeology and the Jewish Settlements in the City of David (Dr. Friedrich Schipper/Prof. Dr. Wolfram Reiss)
