Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Motto: The ultimate goal of each theory is to merge once more with the womb of life that had brought it forth. Reasoning finds its conclusion by returning to topical issues (Clodovis Boff).
The idea that Practical Theology is only concerned with learning rules about how and where to do what, is still widespread. But when communication among human beings acting out of autonomous motivation is concerned, such an application model leads to manipulation and indoctrination. Under the current conditions of pluralism, reflection on the task of liaising is of prominent importance.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous assessment during the course; Regular attendance and active cooperation; Written summary of the avails covering all relevant topics.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In this course based on action theory, students should learn to realize the complex relation between theory and practice, to distinguish between formal predications and those based on content as well as between facts and significance; they should become acquainted with the branches of Practical Theology, gain perspectives for action and become conscious of their future professional role.

Examination topics

Short lectures alternate with exercises.
