Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Systems of the relationship between state and church (including the relevant historical background); State and Church in the European Union; Constitutional Guarantees of Freedom of Religion; Individual Religious Freedom; Aspects of Corporative Religious Freedom (recognised churches and religious societies; registered religious communities; religious communities as associations); state regulations concerning membership of recognised churches or religious societies; legal powers of the "Bundesstelle für Sektenfragen"; Freedom of Religion and school legislation.
Assessment and permitted materials
Participation, expected completion of a term paper, colloquium at the end of the course.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
See above regarding performance asessment. For positive completion, the term paper must be completend and the final colloquium must be passed.
Examination topics
The students should be familiarised with issues concerning the content of the fundamental right to freedom of religion and areas of tension, especially with provisions of basic law. The aim is to deepen knowledge of the human rights relevant for Austria.
Presentation by the lecturer with deliberate breaks where students are given the opportunity to ask questions or make suggestions. The material is compiled in two corse documents. Only these are relevant to the colloquium.
