Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar is aimed at students at an advanced stage of their studies; it is not suitable for first-year students. Topics on the relationship between the state and the church will be dealt with in individual presentations. The topics range from the Investiture Controversy in the Middle Ages to the Reformation and Counter-Reformation in the 16th century, the Josephine Tolerance Patents and the Basic Law of the State in 1867 to the state recognition of Jehovah's Witnesses in 2009.

Assessment and permitted materials

Seminar participants are required to give a 20-minute presentation (15 and 16 June) and to write a paper till the end of the semester.
