Continuous assessment of course work

This course only is open to students who have registered and are present in the first unit. Participants who are unexcused not present will be de-registered from the course. Two times excused absence will be tolerated, other absences will result in de-registration from the course if this is the case during the period for de-registrations (30.10.2013), or, if after this period, in a negative grading result. For unsubscribing pleease contact per e-mail sabine.neuwirth@univie.ac.at Taking one exam and in the following being absent from further tests/exams will result in a negative grading result of the participant as well.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The class covers the basic concepts and some of the most important aspects of international law. It deals with the formation of international law (its sources), the role of states; International Organizations and individuals in international law; dispute settlement and the international use of force

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation in discussions in class (30 per cent) and final written exam (70 per cent)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic understanding and knowledge of international law

Examination topics

Presentation and discussion of select topics on the basis of material provided by the instructor.
