Aims, contents and method of the course
Aims: students will obtain basic knowledge on the instruments of intellectual property available for protection of creations in the fashion industry.Contents: “Intellectual property in the fashion industry” is a course that provides an overview of instruments for intellectual property legal protection available for fashion designs in the U.S. and EU. The course opens with an introduction into intellectual property law, focusing on international agreements in intellectual property protection and institutions responsible for managing copyright, trademarks, designs and patents. In the main part of the course, students will learn about copyright, trademark and design protection available for the creative industries, focusing on fashion designs. In the final session of the course, the students will be offered an overview of the latest legal developments in the fashion industry in the era of digitalization, including the use of cryptocurrencies, NFTs and applications for trademarks in the metaverse.Method of the course: Lecture, case examples, assignment.

Written final exam (closed book), active class participation.
