The following dates are planned for the exam: if it can take place in attendance, there will be two groups - one on January 13th, 2022, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and one on January 13, 2020, 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. .The reason is that the computer room can only be half full due to the measures taken.
If the measures do not allow a face-to-face exam, it will have to take place online. The participants will be informed accordingly.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim is to discuss and apply the basic principles and rules of public international law, including the processes of dispute settlement, at the example of concrete public international law cases. This serves also as a preparation for the oral exam in public international law in the "Staatswissenschaftlicher Abschnitt"; (Third Section of Studies).
The contents includes foundations and background of public international law, sources of public international law, public international law and national law, subjects of public international law, immunities and privileges, international investment law, basic legal principles of international relations, state responsibility, individual international responsibility.
Facts of public international law cases will be available via Moodle. Participants should read them already before the respective classes in order to be prepared for questions and discussions.

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation in class, e-learning quizzes at home in preparation of the cases, and one written exam (cases analysis).
At the written exam, the following book may be used: Reinisch A. und Reisinger Coracini A. (Hrsg.), Österreichisches Handbuch des Völkerrechts, Band 2, 5. Auflage (Wien Manz 2021).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Written exam, e-learning quizzes and class participation must amount to 50% of the points achievable.
