Aims, contents and method of the course
Demographic conditions (population share of Muslims in Europe in past and present); legal standing of Christians and Jews under Islamic rule; legal standing of "heterodox" under Christian rule; legal positions regarding intermarriages; reception of the Euro-American human rights discourse on the Islamic side; Turkey - an "Islamic" State? Act on the Recognition of the Adherents of Islam as a Religious Community (Islamgesetz 1912); Act on External Legal Relationships of Islamic Religious Societies (Islamgesetz 2015; including Amendment 2021!); further legal developments in an European comparison.

Presentations by the lecturers with deliberate caesuras with the possibility of students asking questions and stating suggestions.
Reading list
Two course-documents will be made avalable for the students via the Moodle-platform. These contain further references. However, the referenced literature is not directly relevant for the colloquium.
